October 6, 1936 – June 14, 2024
Nellie Jean Futrell Piver, beloved wife, mother, and "Mema," went to be with the Lord on June 14, 2024, at her home surrounded by family. Jean was an angel on earth who loved and served the Lord in everything she did.
Jean was born on October 6, 1936, to Joseph and Nellie Bradley. She retired from Edgecombe County Public Schools, where she was devoted to the nutrition and well-being of her students. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands Stanley Blanchard Futrell and Joseph Franklin Futrell, brothers Walton Bradley, Billy Bradley, and Forrest Bradley, and sister Pauline Grimmer.
Jean is survived by her husband Tom Piver, son Stanley B. Futrell Jr. (Karen), daughter Pamela Futrell Davis (Mills), and daughter Lesley Futrell Pittman (Chris). She was a loving "Mema" to her grandchildren: Drew Davis (Mandi), Will Davis (Parker), Ley Futrell, Eyan Wiggs, Sarah Payton Davis Whitehead (Austin), Jesse Futrell, and Zach Pittman. She was also blessed with six great-grandchildren: Millie Davis, Nellie Catherine Davis, Pammy Jo Davis, Penn Davis, Finn Davis, and W.B. Davis.
A celebration of life will take place on Monday, June 17, 2024, at First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Tarboro. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am, with the service starting at 11:00 am, and a committal will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Tarboro.
