Paul Joseph Veon passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on October 10, 2026. He was dearly loved by his family and will be greatly missed.
Paul was born September 6, 1951, in the District of Columbia to Monte and Margaret Veon. He was a bit of a surprise to his parents as he was an unexpected second-born fraternal twin. He grew up initially in the Anacostia section of DC and attended St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church. He also attended the St. Teresa school in Anacostia. The family later moved to Upper Marlboro, Maryland where he attended Frederick Douglas Senior High School.
Before graduation, Paul enlisted in the Army and, after basic training, was a paratrooper in Germany during the Vietnam War era. He obtained his GED while serving. He also miraculously survived a parachute jump accident while in Germany. After his military service ended, he returned and worked at Giant Food for a period of time. He later moved to a career in the antenna/cable/satellite industry in which he installed multiple types of systems and home theater configurations for over 40 years. He retired from that industry and moved on to his final job before retirement in automobile sales at various dealers in Southern Maryland.
He loved motorcycles and owned many over his lifetime. Riding them brought him much enjoyment and peace. He was also a lifetime Washington Redskins/Commanders fan.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Monte, Sr., and Margaret, and his older brother Monte, Jr.
Paul is survived by his wife of 46 years, Cheryl, his daughter Katharine, his twin sister, Ann Kans, his sister Mary Ellen Baker, and his brother James Veon (Wendy), along with numerous nephews and nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces, and great-great nephews and great-great-nieces.
He is also survived by his daughter from his first marriage, Lisa Marie, and his granddaughter, Mina.
Viewing will be at Carlisle Funeral Home, 701 Hospital Drive, Tarboro, NC on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, from 6pm to 8pm for family, friends, and neighbors.
Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, starting 11am at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 1004 St. David Street, Tarboro, NC 27886.
A service with military honors will be the same day starting promptly at 2pm at Eastern Carolina Veterans Cemetery, 164 Longs Plant Farm Road, Goldsboro, NC 27534. As this is over an hour's drive, there will be no funeral procession. Those who wish to attend should meet at the service pavilion of the cemetery no later than 1:45pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tarboro TNR and Feline Friends in Tarboro, NC (https://www.tarborotnr.org/donations).
