Obituary

Peggy Wood James, 93, of Conetoe, passed away Sunday, March 17, 2024. Visitation will be held 11:00 – 12:00 on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at Bethel Baptist Church in Bethel immediately followed by a graveside service at the Bethel Cemetery on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at 12:00 PM.

Peggy was born on July 5, 1930, in LaGrange, NC to the late C.W. and Cynthia Wood. Peggy graduated from LaGrange High School where she was President of her class and voted Best Looking. She moved to Bethel after high school while working for the telephone company. She met the love of her life, Roy Clinton James, and they married on October 13, 1950. Together, they enjoyed farming and growing a family in Conetoe, NC. Roy passed away on September 8, 1980. Peggy loved her simple life on the family farm. She spent endless hours caring for goats and puppies, growing and cooking fresh vegetables, and enjoying her walks.

Her three sons, Clint (Tric), Glenn James, and Neal James are left to cherish her memory. She also leaves behind 6 grandchildren: Casey, Clinton (Shanna), Codi (Erik), Brandon (Mandi), Brian (Heather), and Matthew as well as 8 great grandchildren: Madi, Peyton, Shields, Bella, Charlotte, Ashton, Avery, and Jamesly. Peggy was preceded in death by her siblings: Carroll, Kirby, Marjorie, Faye, and is survived by Earl, Dalthia, Mary Ann, and Linda.

Peggy was faithful member of Bethel Baptist Church where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, and helped in the nursery. She was best known for her famous chocolate pies at church dinners. She was frequent visitor at Conetoe Methodist Church. She loved the Lord and had a strong faith that carried her each day.

Peggy was the perfect example of grace, a word that is so hard to define and understand. She offered it to others and lived it each day. She was the mother we all strive to be with the ability to always show love even when she was disappointed. Peggy was present in a society of distractions. She always had words of encouragement on anyone's toughest days. She was a true blessing to our family and fortunately for us, she lives on as she was a constant teacher.

If desired, memorial contributions can be made to a hospice organization of your choice.
