Reverend Noah
Baker Howard
February 2, 1931 – April 18, 2023
Reverend Noah B. Howard, 92, passed away April 18, 2023. Noah was born in Tarboro, NC to Henry Clay Howard and Ella Mae Baker Tolson on February 2nd, 1931. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, brothers Richard and Henry, sister Hazel Brown, grandson Donnie Harrell, granddaughter Amy Harrell and great-granddaughter Cordelia Joyner.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Evelyn B Howard, children, Teresa Harrell (Don), Susan Joyner, Richard (Ricky) Howard, Jennie Kirkland (Thurman) and Michael Howard; 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren, and sister, Ann Armstrong of Gastonia, NC. Also included are his loving dogs, Scarlet, Odin and Tia.
He attended Tarboro High School and graduated in 1949. Reverend Howard served in the National Guard Army in the 1950's.
Prior to becoming a minister in the Episcopal Church, he worked with Burlington Industries for 20+ years. He studied religion at Duke University under the tutelage and guidance of The Right Reverend Bishop Thomas Frazier. Reverend Howard was ordained as Priest in 1977 and served 40+ years as Vicar at St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Tarboro, NC. While serving as a fulltime minister he also worked fulltime in textile's, one of only 2 ministers to accomplish this goal. He was instrumental in developing the East Regional Ministry and the Yadkin Valley Regional Ministry. Reverend Howard also served as Vicar at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Windsor, NC, located in the East Carolina Diocese. After having studied the Spanish language, he officiated Hispanic services at St. Michael's and also helped assist with the Hispanic congregation at St. Mark's in Wilson, NC.
A graveside service will be held on April 21 at 10:00am at St. Michael's Church Cemetery, followed by the Eucharistic service at 11:00am officiated by The Right Reverend Jennifer Brooke-Davidson in the sanctuary of St. Michael's Episcopal Church at 3204 Western Blvd, Tarboro.
At other times, the family will receive visitors at the home at 206 Maryland Avenue, Tarboro, NC.
