Richard Douglas "Dick" Fugate, age 62, passed away at his home in Tarboro on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, after a 3-year long battle with cancer.  In spite of the indignities inflicted upon his body by the disease, he dealt with it stoically, without complaint, and with his usual wry humor.  He was a master craftsman and talented musician.  He will be missed by his family and his many "buddies."

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Patton Thomas Fugate, Jr. and Susan B. Fugate, and his nephew, Benjamin Thomas Cobb.  He is survived by his daughter, Sarah Hux and husband Tanner; grandson and his "little buddy" Tanner Kendrick Hux, Jr., all of Manns Harbor; his sister, Kelly Anderson and husband George, of Tarboro; his niece, Anna Perkinson and husband, Phillip of Raleigh; and several cousins.

The family will receive visitors at 1:00 on Wednesday, September 7, in the Fellowship Hall of St. James United Methodist Church in Tarboro, followed by a Celebration of Life Service in the church sanctuary at 2:00.  Interment will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Elm City following the service.
