IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard Blake
Robertson
July 28, 1929 – February 21, 2023
Richard Robertson passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2023.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at Pinetops United Methodist Church.
Richard was born July 28, 1929. He was 93 years old. Richard was raised by Jim and Janie Robertson in Washington, NC. They were hardworking Christian parents who taught Richard how to be a good Christian, work hard, and save money. Richard had eight different jobs when very young. From 14 to 18 he managed a railroad station as a Telegraph operator. This was during World War Two, when many men were in military service.
Richard studied hard and graduated at the top of his class in both high school and college. He graduated with an electrical engineering degree and was in three honorary fraternities for those with a high GPA. He earned a master's degree in Business Administration. Richard designed magnetic amplifiers and transformers of the type used in automatic pilots for jet fighter airplanes and guided missiles. This was at Westinghouse Electric Air Arm Division. He did new product planning for General Electric and was director of marketing for General Motors. He started and operated an engineering and marketing consulting firm for 20 years.
Richard was married to Betty Robertson, a school teacher, who preceded him in death. Richard was president of the Pinetops Lions Club. He was the manager of the Food for the Needy Program and Christmas Party for the Blind and Visually Impaired for many years. He also started and operated the Edgecombe County Needy Charity.
He was a Sunday school teacher for Pinetops United Methodist Church Senior Sunday school class for about 25 years. Richard followed the major teachings of Jesus: to love God with all your heart, soul, and mind, and to love others as you love yourself. He visited the unchurched and tried to bring them to Christ, and helped the needy, sick, and elderly. Richard was a good example of working hard and having a strong faith in God, and the discipline and determination to do the right thing.
Richard based his life on the teaching of Jesus found in the Sermon on the Mount and therefore tried to work hard at loving God and taking the action that God told us to take-to love and help others. He learned to be humble, and to quickly forgive, and to bless others. These things helped to make Richard happy.
