Obituary

Rochelle Whaley Cobb, born on January 9, 1940, and died June 16, 2025.

Visitation will be Saturday, June 28, 2025 from 1:00 - 2:00pm at Pinetops Presbyterian Church with the funeral service following at 2:00pm. Burial will follow the service at Pineview Cemetery, Pinetops, NC.

She was born in Edgecombe County, daughter, of the late Shirley Laughlin Whaley and Martha Abrams Whaley. Preceded in death by her parents and husband Cullen Cobb, brother Joseph Laughlin Whaley, and sister Mavourneen Chacon.

She was retired from Glenoit Corporation where she worked from June, 1961 to June, 2002. Prior to joining Glenoit in 1961, she worked in Washington, DC for the Navy Department from 1958 to 1959, and Eastern Air Lines from 1959 to 1961, returned to North Carolina and worked for the Public Office Service out of Rocky Mount and Tarboro until joining Glenoit in 1961. She was a loving and dedicated wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She loved the outdoors and fishing with her family. She was a respected resident of Pinetops from 1942 to present. She was a member of the Pinetops Presbyterian Church where she served on numerous committees, teaching Sunday School classes, typing bulletins and performing various duties for the Church. If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pinetops Presbyterian Church in her memory.

She was a volunteer and past Vice President for the Edgecombe County United Way. She was a volunteer for the Edgecombe County Community Advisory Committee serving as Secretary for Adult Long Term Care Facilities from 2002 to 2016.

She is survived by: Her Daughter Denise Rachow and husband Mike of Wilson, NC, Step Daughter Susan Overman and husband Ricky of Aiken, SC, Step Son David Cobb and wife Sheryl of Kealakekua, HI, grandchildren John D. and Jessica Williford of Elm City, NC, Bennett and Ashley Williford of Rocky Mount, NC, Alisha and Joshua Singleton of Summerville, SC, Lindsey and Jason Griffin of Aiken, SC, Allison and Allen Cantrell of Swansboro, NC, thirteen great grandchildren, sister Shirley Mae Matzinger of Vacaville, CA, and brother Dennis and Lynn Whaley of Rocky Mount, NC, and numerous nieces and nephews.
