IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sharon Lewis
Horton
April 9, 1931 – July 15, 2022
Sharon Lewis Horton passed away at the age of 91 in her home in Tarboro on July 15, 2022 surrounded by her family and faithful caregivers.
Sharon was referred to by her husband, Marvin, as his "Favorite Star." A fortuitous encounter in 1954, the pair met in Tarboro during a U.S. House of Representatives re-election campaign for LH Fountain, for whom she worked in Washington DC. The tale told is Marvin first noticed her because of her perfect elbows, but her outward beauty was combined with a strong willed, spirited woman he found irresistible.
She was loved by her family for her many attributes, but most notably will be remembered her love of all things beautiful, natural, and creative. Sharon had a passion for art, gardening, walking the paths of Lake Valley, exercise, and taking the last sliver of cake. She often recalled and shared fond memories with family and friends by beginning her recollection with the phrase "it was a particular time."
Sharon was born on April 9,1931 in Du Quoin, Illinois, daughter of Donald and Edith Jinkinson Lewis and the younger sister of David Lewis. She is survived her husband Marvin Vale Horton, Jr., her brother David Lewis, her children, Shari, Don, Lisa, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held in the Chapel at Calvary Episcopal Church on Monday, July 18, 2022 at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Calvary Episcopal Church building maintenance fund is appreciated.
