Shirley Joann (Nelson) Hockensmith Gainey widow of James Gainey went to join Jesus on December 17, 2024.

Shirley was the daughter of the late John Miller Nelson and Charlotte (Hockley) Sowers and stepfather the late Robert Sowers all from Mt. Holly Springs, PA.  Shirley was born June 26, 1939, and was first married to Wayne L. Hockensmith, Sr. from Newville, PA.  Many years later she married James Gainey from Tarboro, NC.  Besides being a hard worker, Shirley was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She enjoyed spoiling her dogs, going shopping, having cookouts, and spending time with her family.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter, Amber Leigh Keck; sister, Alice Smith; and her husband James Gainey.

Shirley is survived by a son, Wayne L. Hockensmith, Jr. and wife Betty of Newville, PA; daughter, Eileen A. Keck, Tarboro, NC; grandchildren, Noelle Keck and Dustin Hockensmith and sister Louise Myers. She is also survived by several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.

She will be greatly missed by all.
