Shirley Holloman Lucas, 82, of Whitakers, NC went to be with her Savior on Monday, February 15.  She passed away at home, surrounded by her loving family. Shirley was born February 12, 1939, to the late Adron and Lillie Bell Holloman.

A Celebration of Shirley's Life will be held at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of Carlisle Funeral Home on Saturday, February 2021 with Rev. Dennis Pulliam officiating. Burial will follow in Edgecombe Memorial Park.

Shirley married her husband of 63 years, John "Bill" Lucas on October 31, 1957. They were blessed with five children. Shirley was a loving mother, always making sure her family's needs were met. This meant long days of gardening and preserving vegetables, housekeeping, laundry, and cooking. She continued to cook Sunday lunch for her family and extended family long after the children had left home. She enjoyed working in her flower beds and would share her flowers with friends.  She enjoyed feeding the birds, especially yellow finches that would cover the ground; and hummingbirds that would drink from the feeder held in her hand. Shirley also had a special love for her three dogs, Jack, Jill, and Sam.

Shirley was proceeded in death by her loving granddaughter, Anna Kaitlin "KK" Robbins.

Survivors include her husband Bill of Whitakers; children, Teresa Madry (Larry) of Whitakers, Kimberly Lucas of Rocky Mount, Barbara Robbins (Ricky) of Whitakers, David Lucas (Billie Jo) of Whitakers, and Anita Lucas (Shalonda) of Pittsboro, NC; seven grandchildren, Ashley Cox (Marissa) of Wendell, Russ Madry (Jessica) of Palm Harbor, Florida, Amy Marlow (Jonathan) of Tarboro, Meghan Phillips (Justin) of Whitakers, Brandon Madry of Greenville, John Lucas (Meagan) of Whitakers, and Caleb Lucas of Whitakers; and seven great-grandchildren, Avery Cox, Hayden Cox, Easton Marlow, Greyson Phillips, Giana Madry, Levi Lucas, and Beckett Madry.  Shirley is also survived by a special niece, Lillian Brady, and sister-in-law, Patricia Whitley, who both assisted with her care.

The family will receive friends at Carlisle Funeral Home on Saturday from 12:00-1:00PM and other times at 12245 NC Highway 33 NW, Whitakers, NC 27891.
