Shirley Lewis Jones, 84, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 27, 2022 at Vidant Edgecombe Hospital.  She was a long-time resident of Tarboro and spent her career with Carolina Telephone/Sprint until her retirement in 1990.  Shirley was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, beloved sister, and dear friend to many.

She was preceded in death by her husband Virgil Jones and second husband William Jones.  She is survived by her children, Kenneth Jones (Lisa) of Winterville, Linwood Jones (Sandra) of Raleigh, five grandchildren (Elizabeth Heidari of Indianapolis, Spencer Jones of Raleigh, Aaron Jones of Jacksonville, FL, Margaret Jones of New York City, Loghan Jones of Winterville) and five great grandchildren (Luca, Sienna, Caleb, Adelyn, and Whitman). She is also survived by her brothers James Lewis, Joe Lewis, Danny Lewis, Walton Lewis, and Wayne Lewis, and was preceded in death by her sisters Marie Letchworth and Lucille Jones and her brother Kendred Lewis.

A graveside service will be held at Macclesfield Cemetery on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. The family will hold a celebration of her life in the spring.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Tarboro Church of Christ.
