It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Steve Ward, who passed away at his home on August 21, 2026, at the age of 74.

Steve was born in Waterloo on February 10, 1952 the son of the late Bernard G. and Bernice M. (VanHoesen) Ward. He was a 1970 graduate of Waterloo Central School and a 1973 graduate of Alfred Tech. Steve was initially a Mason by trade but became extremely talented in many other trades over the years. He worked for the Village of Waterloo for 26 years retiring December 15, 2017 as the Superintendent of Public Works.

Steve enjoyed being a member and co-owner of the Waterloo quoit league for many years where he loved friendly competition and camaraderie. He enjoyed ski trips and NASCAR races with multiple dear friends. He had a passion for classic cars, especially his 1984 Monte Carlo SS which was a source of great pride and enjoyment.

Besides his parents he was predeceased by his wife Susan J. (Donahue) Ward and his sister Susan Ward.

He is survived by his daughter McKenzie (Jason) Acevedo, his son Justin (Nicola), his granddaughter Sydney Acevedo, grandsons Gavin and Levi Ward, Nephew David Ward, his dearest friend and companion Nancy Caine, and many other cherished family members.

Those who knew Steve will remember him for his hard working spirit, his sense of pride, and the simple things that brought him happiness. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all those lives he touched. His memory will live on in the stories shared, the friendships made, the work he was proud of and the people he loved.
