IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Steven Lee
Cherry
December 31, 1965 – August 9, 2021
Steven Lee Cherry (Steve), 55, entered his heavenly home on Monday August, 9, 2021. Just as he'd prayed for, he slipped away peacefully, alongside the love of his life.
Steve was born in Tarboro, to the late Doris Lee Cherry (DL) and Lillian Little Cherry. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Steve grew up with a love for motorcycles and started racing at the early age of 6; enjoying the sport late into his teenage years. Many of his fondest childhood memories included the racetrack, where he cherished so many memories with his dad and brother, Lance. Steve loved being outdoors, whether the mountains, the beach, football games, cookouts with friends or just enjoying time on his own back porch.
He loved a good card game, Joker Poker Machine, and Casino and enjoyed many trips to Harrah's in Cherokee with his wife.
He is affectionately known by his son as "the grill master." He was a great cook and according to his family, never used a recipe. Steve was an avid music lover and in particularly partial to Carolina Beach Music. He looked forward to the Beach Music Cammy weekend in North Myrtle Beach every November. He loved to travel and experience new places but most of all he adored his family and was a dear friend to many. He was selfless, put the needs of others before his own and if you needed him, you could count on him. He was also a man to speak his mind and while he would never intentionally hurt anyone, if you didn't want the truth, or didn't want to know what he was thinking then it was better not to ask.
Steve grew up in the First Pentecostal Church, where he often spoke of his time there with his grandmother. In more recent years, he, along with his wife and children found their forever Church Family at His Vision Ministry in Tarboro. Steve felt very connected to his Pentecostal roots within this Ministry, became an active member within the church, established lasting friendships and more importantly continued to focus on his personal relationship with Christ. He was dearly loved by many and will be sorely missed.
Steve leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of 28 years, Crystal Mitchell Cherry (Chris); children, Mandi Owens and husband Mike, Emily Cherry, and Dawson Cherry; grandchildren, John Michael and Kaleb; sister, Yvonne English (Greg), brothers, Lance Cherry (June), Vinson Lane (Crystal), and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
A Memorial Service to honor Steve's memory will be held on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at 6:00pm, officiated by his best friend and Pastor, Jay Thompson. A Celebration of Life will immediately follow his service. Steve meticulously planned a celebration that would allow gathering and sharing of good times in an environment that he loved and enjoyed in hopes that this would bring much comfort to his family whom he loved more than life.
Service and Celebration will take place at The Horse Barn (home of Jay and Billie Lynn Thompson) 3392 NC 111 S. Pinetops, NC. Visitation during all other times will be at the home of Steve and Chris Cherry, 103 Briarwood Court, Tarboro.
In lieu flowers, memorial contributions can be made to His Vision Ministry c/o Tami Warren 1115 Vance Drive, Tarboro, NC 27886.
