Mrs. Susan "Susie" Vernell Dew Killebrew Rawls, passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2020 at Spring Arbor of Rocky Mount.

She was born on July 8, 1929 in Pinetops, NC. Her father and mother were John Henry Dew and Carrie Crisp Dew who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her three brothers Raymond, Billy and Milton.

Susie grew up in the American Childrens Home and after graduation she took on the task of Editing and Publishing the quarterly newspaper named "Jr Homekids" for Alumni and friends of the American Childrens Home at Lexington, NC and Tiffin, Ohio. She faithfully carried on this tradition for over 50 years. Her long working  career included work at Tullos Equipment Co., NCDA Upper Costal Plain Experiment Station, Edgecombe Community College and the Walter B. Jones Treatment Center. She was an active member of the West Edgecombe Baptist Church as long as her health permitted. She was a member of the Ladies II Sunday School Class and she was a "Home-Bound Visitor.

She was married to Frank Killebrew and later to Robert Teele Rawls, Jr  both preceded her in death.

She is survived by her step children: Robert Teele Rawls, III and wife sherry, Cheri Donahue Rawls Lucas and husband Ray, step grandchildren Robert Teele Rawls IV and Jessica Dawn Webb Peaden and husband Mike, great grandson William Peaden and sister in law Frances Dew and a special friend of over 80 years Nora Lee Barbee.

Due to the Corona 19 Virus precautions, the family will have a private graveside service at Edgecombe Memorial Park conducted by Dr. Jeffery Chappell. Soloist Koby Garrison will perform at the graveside.
