Teresa Ann (England) Hollis, lovingly known to family and friends as “Terri,” 64, of Tarboro, North Carolina, passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, June 25, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones.
Born on July 20, 1961, in Hopewell, Virginia, to the late Elam England and Clarice England, Terri lived a life centered on faith, family, and the simple joys that made every day special. She was the beloved wife of the late James Earl Hollis, with whom she shared many years of love and cherished memories.
For 13 years, Terri was a familiar and friendly face at the local Food Lion, where her warm smile, kind heart, and genuine conversations brightened the days of countless customers and coworkers. She never met a stranger and had a way of making everyone feel welcome.
A faithful member of United Christian Ministries under the leadership of Pastor Richard Brazzell, Terri’s faith was a guiding light throughout her life. She found happiness in life’s simple pleasures—playing quarter bingo, sitting in her rocking chair on the front porch, casting a line into Pepper Lake, and spending time with the people she loved most. Above all else, her greatest joy came from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were truly the light of her life.
Terri was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Earl Hollis; her son, James William Hollis; and her parents, Elam England and Clarice England.
She is survived by her daughters, Chastity Myers and Jami Gay (Allan); her grandchildren, Joshua Myers (Christen), Dustin Myers (Rowan), Cody Kennedy (Haley), Hailey Gay, Chloe Gay, and Jase Gay; her great-grandchildren, Maverick and Lainey Myers and Waylon Kennedy; and a special nephew, Dylan England.
Those who knew Terri will remember not only her gentle spirit and caring heart, but also her unmistakable sense of humor. She was famous for saying, “I tried to tell y’all. You’re gonna listen to me one day. I won’t born yesterday.” Those words never failed to bring a smile and perfectly captured the wit, wisdom, and personality that made Terri so unforgettable.
A celebration of Terri’s life will be held on Monday, June 29, 2026, at United Christian Ministries, 1402 Woodgreen Road, Tarboro, NC 27886. Visitation with the family will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Richard Brazzell officiating.
Following the service, family and friends are invited to gather for a time of food, fellowship, and remembrance at the family home, 1810 W. Wilson Street, Tarboro, NC 27886.
Though our hearts are broken, we rejoice in knowing that Terri is home with her Lord and reunited with those she loved who went before her. Her laughter, her faith, her wisdom, and the love she poured into her family will live on in every story shared on a front porch, and every time someone says “I tried to tell y’all.” She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
