Thomas Price Miller, 89 died at his home on July 12. He was born June 21, 1937 in Port Republic, Rockingham County in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. He was the son of Harry Price and Ethel Argenbright Miller. Miller was educated in the public schools of Rockingham County and was a 1959 military graduate of the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, having earned a bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He enjoyed a full career of over 26 years as an officer in the United States Marine Corps, spending approximately eight of those years in various command and leadership posts that carried him to many parts of the US, Vietnam, Africa, Japan, and England. Special assignments included Aide de camp to the French Ambassador to the US and NC Gov. Robert K. Scott, Commanding Officer and all Marines at American Embassies and Consulates General on the sub Sahara, Africa, and Speechwriter to the 26th Commandant of the Marine Corps. Among a dozen or so decorations held, personal ones included the Bronze Star with Combat V, the Navy Commendation with Combat V and three stars, the Combat Action and Marine Security Guard Ribbon, and the Vietnamese Honor Medal First Class. In addition, he held numerous Certificates of Commendation and letters of Appreciation from both military and civilian officials. Following retirement from the Marine Corps during 1984, the Millers owned and operated for about 21 years Little Warren Bed and Breakfast located in their home, The Pennington-Creech-Miller House, on the Town Common. It was the first Bed and Breakfast in Tarboro and received both local and state accolades.

Active in both civic and church affairs, Miller served as President of Tarboro-Edgecombe Chapter of the NC Symphony; President of Friends of Edgecombe County Memorial Library; Director of the Tarboro Edgecombe Chamber of Commerce; and Director, Vice President, and President Elect of the NC Bed and Breakfast Association. An Episcopalian he served in numerous parishes in a variety of lay positions. A communicant of Calvary Parish (in Tarboro) since 1984, he served as Treasurer, Parish Administrator, Master of Acolytes, Lay Reader and Chalice Bearer, as well as a member of the Altar Guild, and Chairman of its Flower Guild; a member of the Needlepoint Guild and Chairman of its design committee; a Delegate to the Diocese of NC conventions, and a Vestryman. Further, he served as Parish Historian of Calvary since 2005-2025.

A Rotarian, Miller served as Treasurer and Director of The Rotary Club of Tarboro for eleven years, President of that Club for two consecutive terms, and Governor of Rotary District 7720 (North Eastern NC) during Rotary year 1998-1999. He was a multiple Rotary Paul Harris Fellow. 

Miller married Patricia Madry of Scotland Neck, NC on June 25, 1960, who survives him. He is also survived by a daughter, Katherine M. Pinson and son-in-law Anthony D. Pinson of Rockport, Maine, and a son Thomas Price Miller, jr., two grandchildren, Alexander D. Pinson of Leesburg, VA, and Thomas Spencer Pinson of Los Angeles; and a sister, Sarah M. Walter of Afton, VA.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Rector's Discretionary Fund, Calvary Parish or to the Music Fund.

Services will be conducted at 11:00 on July 25 at Calvary Church, followed by internment within Calvary Churchyard. Afterwards the family will receive friends at a reception at Clark Hall.
