IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Virginia Cherry
Williams
April 25, 1943 – January 6, 2025
Virginia Cherry Williams, 81, lovingly surrounded by her family, entered her eternal home on January 6, 2025. Born on April 25, 1943, she grew up on the Cherry Family Farm on Bulluck School Road, where her roots ran deep, and her character was shaped by hard work, faith, and love for family.
Visitation will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 10, 2025 at Carlisle Funeral Home in Tarboro, NC, with the Funeral Service to follow at 12:00 P.M. with Senior Pastor Matthew Mayo officiating. Interment to follow at Edgecombe Memorial Park.
She was the cherished daughter of the late Henry Mayo Cherry and Ruth Dunn Cherry. Virginia was a devoted wife to George Melton Williams, with whom she shared 62 beautiful years of marriage, a true testament to unwavering love and partnership.
Virginia is survived by her beloved daughter, Robin Williams Braswell, and son-in-law, Gary, who brought immense joy and pride to her life. She also leaves behind her dear sister, Jane Cherry Jernigan, and brother-in-law, Jimmie. Her family extended to include her red-headed "stepchild" granddog, Journey, and her granddog who could do no wrong, Sully, both of whom brought her endless delight.
A graduate of West Edgecombe High School, Virginia continued her education at Hardbarger Business College, which prepared her for a remarkable career. She began her professional journey with the FBI before dedicating 40 years to Anderson and Anderson Attorneys, where her meticulous nature and dedication earned her the admiration of many. In her later years, she found fulfillment in roles that kept her close to her community, first as the office secretary at West Edgecombe Middle School and then at Bulluck Elementary School, where she touched countless lives before retiring.
Virginia was a devoted member of West Edgecombe Baptist Church, where her faith flourished. She was an active participant in the Ladies I Sunday School Class, the Young at Heart Group, and the Homebound Ministry, offering her time and compassion to those in need.
Her life was marked by simple yet profound joys: time spent at the beach, listening to her husband's fishing stories, and creating precious memories with her family. She embodied grace, kindness, and a steadfast commitment to her faith and loved ones.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to West Edgecombe Baptist Church Homebound Ministry; 13821 NC Hwy 43 N Rocky Mount, NC 27801 or the Susan G. Komen (for Breast Cancer research); 13770 Noel Road, Suite 801889, Dallas, TX 75380.
Virginia's legacy is one of love, service, and unwavering devotion, and she will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know her.
