Whalen Long "Bobby" passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on Tuesday, February 18, 2025.

A Visitation will be held at Carlisle Funeral Home on Friday, February 21, 2025, 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM.  A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Mildred Missionary Baptist Church, with interment immediately following at Greenwood Cemetery in Tarboro, NC.

Bobby was born in Martin County, NC, on October 8, 1939, to the late Allen Leggett Long and Addie Roberson Long.  He joined the family trade of construction and carpentry, after years of teaching by his father.  He, his father and brothers often worked alongside each other on projects.  Bobby's skills remain evident in the homes he helped build and renovate.

In his spare time, and during retirement, Bobby continued to hone his carpentry skills by building bird houses that he would often gift to those he loved.  He also greatly enjoyed spending time outside golfing, deep sea fishing and gardening.  One of his greatest pleasures was spending time with his grandchildren, especially his great granddaughter, Riley, also known as the apple of his eye.

In addition to his parents, Bobby was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Jeanne Long; son, Timothy Scott Long; brothers, Bo Long, Claude Long, Jimmy Long; sisters, Bet Hillas and Mable Maybry.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Amy Long and Kim Whitley (Richard); sisters, Hazel Hale and Debbie Fox; brothers, George Long, Henry Long, Paul Long, Joe Long; granddaughters, Emily Long Negrete and Sarah Bell; grandson, Allen Long; and great grandchildren, Riley Hales, Ben Negrete, Tyler Joyner, Ayden Zimmerman, Austin Bell and Hunter Bell.
