William Louis "Bill" Briggs, 74, passed away on Friday, January 10, 2020 at his home in Edgecombe County.

Bill is the son of the late Henry Marriott and Maude Lassiter Briggs, their ninth of thirteen children.  He was also preceded in death in 1974 by his beloved wife, Brenda Campbell Briggs; by his sister, Elizabeth Briggs Bulluck; and by his brothers: Lynn, Carl, Rylan, Allen, Kemp and Joe Briggs.

Bill is survived by his son, Steven Briggs (Laura) of Pinetops, and daughter Amy Malcolm (Chris) of Wilson; grandchildren: Brandon, Elizabeth Medford (Chris), Patrick, Ryan, Gabrielle Briggs and Connor, Abby, Tristan and Emma Malcolm; great grandchildren: Damian and Violet Banks and Dominic Medford; brothers John Briggs of Enfield, Wood Briggs (Diane) of Nashville and Bob Briggs (Lillian) of Jackson; and sisters Margaret Briggs Hayes (Don) of Rocky Mount and Ann Briggs Wrenn (James) of Emporia VA.

After graduating from Seaboard High School, Bill served in Korea in the US Air Force, and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant. At the age of 29 he became a widower with two very young children. As a single parent, he worked hard to provide a loving, stable home for Steve and Amy. Bill joined CECO Building systems where he worked for many years before becoming permanently disabled. In his later years, he enjoyed watching old western movies, tinkering with projects around his home and took pride in keeping his yard maintained. He dealt with chronic pain daily, fought throat and lung cancer but he continued to be independent and tried to stay as active as possible. He had a caring spirit, especially for the elderly and animals. He leaves behind 2 cats that he rescued, they were such a comfort to him.

A celebration of life will be held at Carlisle Funeral Home, 701 Hospital Drive, Tarboro NC on Sunday, January 19, 2020, with visitation at 2 p.m. and service at 3 p.m.
