William Edward "Hoot" Coggins, 86, departed this life to join our Lord in Heaven on January 13, 2018. He passed away peacefully with his family at his bedside.

Coggins was born in the post-Depression Era on Feb. 16, 1931 to Robert Sr. and Betty Coggins in Greene County. He joined the U.S. Army in 1950, served in the Korean Conflict, was an ex-Prisoner of War and was honorably discharged as Staff Sergeant in 1953.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Robert Jr. and Leonard, his nephew Larry, his eldest son Rocky and his grand-furbaby Chase, a cocker spaniel.

A loving father, he married Barbara Elizabeth Harris of Belvoir and they remained a loving couple for 58-plus years. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, of their home in Pinetops, youngest son Rudy of Pikeville, one niece, four nephews and one sister, Hazel of Rocky Mount.

The family will receive friends at Carlisle Funeral Home, Monday January 15, 2018 from the hours of 6 until 8 PM and other times at the home.

A Celebration of "Hoot's" Life will be Tuesday, January 16, at 2 Pm graveside at Pineview Cemetery in Pinetops.

Flowers are welcome, but donations may be made to a charity of your choice in memory of Hoot Coggins.
