Alice Marie Umphlet

Alice Marie Umphlet died Wednesday, March 17th at Oak Haven Assisted Living Facility in Greenville, NC.  She was 87 years old.  She was born January 31, 1934 in Selma, NC, a daughter of the late William and Ila Belle Peedin.  She married Raleigh Spencer Umphlet on June 30, 1951 and they were happily married for 56 years.

She was a hardworking, dedicated employee at K-Mart in Tarboro, NC for many years.

Marie, as she was called by her loved ones, enjoyed camping, traveling and sightseeing with family as often as she could.  She was an avid reader and a country and gospel music lover.  Eating out was one of her favorite activities, not to mention talking on the phone and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her daughter Patsy Peele and son-in-law Steve, her son Randy Umphlet, four grandchildren, Lisa Shannon, Jody Anderson, Jennifer Garofalo and Miranda Umphlet, three great-grandchildren, Spenser Shannon, Paige Anderson and Nikolas Garofalo, and two sisters, Betty Gay and Jean Sanderson whom she loved dearly.

She was preceded in death by husband Raleigh Spencer Umphlet and great-grandson Drew Anderson.

A visitation will be held at Edgecombe Memorial Park in the Mausoleum on Saturday, March 20th  at 1pm followed by a Celebration of Alice's Life will be held in the Mausoleum at 2pm.
