Carolyn Elizabeth "Woody" Watson, 68, passed away on Tuesday, August 1, 2023.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM on Sunday August 6, 2023 at Word of Life International Church with Pastor Jessie Blalock officiating. Visitation will begin at 3:30 on Sunday at the church until service time.
She was born in Edgecombe County on January 26, 1955 to the late Hubert and Ellen Norville Watson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Wayne Watson and daughter April Marie Watson.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories: Sisters, Robin Parrish; Connie Green; Nephews, Danny Pollard, Dane Watson (Tabitha); Tyler Watson (Carmen), Landen Green (Shannon); Brother-in-law, Buddy Green; Step-son, David Adams; Great-niece, Annabeth Watson; Great-nephew, Wyler Watson; Sister-in-law, Vickie Wells; and her very best friend Robert Summerlin.
She was a woman of great faith and many talents. She was not just a sister or aunt but an exceptional cook and an amazing caregiver for 35 years at Hunny Tree or New Beginnings Child Care Center as it is called today. There’s nothing as beautiful as a motherly heart which best describes Elizabeth Watson., she had one that was filled with unconditional affection, care, and devotion. One of her greatest joys in life was caring for her four nephews.
Early in life, Elizabeth was given the nickname “Woody” which she became known by to all. Her name became as well-known as a specialty dish she made famous at the daycare center which is now called “Woo’s Red Rice”!
Woody enjoyed craft shopping with her sister and crocheting ornaments to give away as gifts to friends and family. To some, Christmas wasn’t complete until you received a crocheted Angel made by Woody. And for her great-niece, Annabeth, whom she loved above all, it was crocheted doll dresses, chocolate candy and a bag of quarters she would gift to her.
Anyone who knew Woody also knew she loved animals. She always had several pets, many of which were rescues. She also leaves behind her pride and joy, her dog “Baby Girl” and 3 cats.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to Word of Life International Church, 3388 McNair Rd, Tarboro, NC 27886.
