Ms. Doris Oleas Bateman, passed away on April 1, 2020 at Vidant Edgecombe Hospital, Tarboro NC - surrounded by her children and grandchildren, peacefully prepared to meet her maker.
Doris was a lifetime resident of Eastern NC who grew up in a God loving family working the fields and fishing the waters any chance she could. She cherished the time she could spend with her children, siblings, grandchildren, and family friends. Music was a large part of Doris’ life and she was blessed to share that passion with her family. As a devout Christian and dedicated member of the Tarboro Church of God, Doris loved her church family.
She was preceded in death by her father and step mother Ernest and Ruby Bateman and mother Ida Vanhorn, her son Johnny Pilley III, and daughter Marie Casper.
She is survived by her three sons Gary Willis and wife Lora of Bethel, Kenneth Willis of Oak City and Jamie Willis and friend Donna Mathews of Bethel, daughter Robin Baker-Arvin and husband Tommy Arvin of Bethel, grandchildren Ida Bailey and husband Jeff of Siler City, Travis Baker and wife Stephanie of Roanoke, Va. Eric Willis and friend Arielle Daniels of Belvoir, Robert Willis of Oak City, Jessica Best and husband William of Greenville and Thomas Arvin II of Bethel, great grandchildren Carla Bailey of Siler City and JT Bailey Jr of Siler City, great-great grandchildren William Murphey and Johnnie Murphey, of Siler City, Siblings- Sister Glenda Garner of Tarboro, Brother H.D. Bateman and Wife Barbara of Vanceboro, Brother Wayne Bateman and Wife Rose of Tarboro, Sister Margaret Bateman of Tarboro, Sister Jean Williams of Tarboro, Sister Mary Waters of Williamston, Son in law Lenny Arsenault, and beloved pet Dino, and countless nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Due to the COVID 19 Virus the family will have a private Celebration of Doris’s Life at Carlisle Funeral Home on April 4, 2020 with Ms. Doris’ favorite pastor, the Rev. Sammy Wood officiating.
