On April 17, 2023 Doris Ann Currin Hayes went to be with her Lord, and to be reunited with her beloved Jim.
Doris was born on June 22, 1932 in Olivia, NC to the late Ernest and Hallie Hart Currin. She grew up enjoying life on her family farm. She loved playing basketball and played during her high school and college years. She graduated from Ben Haven High School. She then attended Lees-McRae College, where she met the love of her life, and graduated with an Associate of Arts. Afterwards she continued her education as an X-ray technician at Watts Hospital. Doris was active in her church, teaching Sunday school over many decades. She loved gardening, poetry, cooking, Sunday drives, long walks, picnics, and the list goes on. Above all she enjoyed spending time with her family. Her family often felt her love by enjoying her delicious Sunday dinners.
She is preceded in death by James “Jim” Edgar Hayes, her husband of 58 years. She is also preceded in death by her sisters Wilma Moore and Betty Russell, as well as brothers Edwin, Frank, Roland, Ernest, Beverly, and Irvin Currin.
She is survived by her three children Deborah Fryar (David) of Tarboro, NC, Mark Hayes (Michelle) of Greensboro, NC, Linda Caraway (Byron) of Easley, SC, and sister Jane Currin Jackson (Ray) of Mooresville, NC. She also is survived by her grandchildren, Matthew Fryar (Emily) of Holly Springs,NC, Lauren Triplett (Ben) of Bastrop,TX, John Caraway (Laura) of Reston,VA, Chelsea Baird (Tyler) of Charleston,SC, and Luke and Logan Hayes of Greensboro,NC, as well as great grandchildren, Ada Fryar, Daphne, Sam, and Max Catherman, Charlotte and Phillip Triplett, Edith and Eloise Caraway, and Lily Baird.
The family will be holding a memorial service in Jefferson,NC at a future date.
