Brucie Thompson of Tarboro passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 7, 2023. She was a life-long resident of Tarboro except for a brief period in Virginia as a young woman.

Memorial service will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Carlisle Funeral Home with Jimmy King officiating. Burial will follow at Edgecombe Memorial Park.
She was predeceased by her parents, Major Robert Harris and Margie Rene Harris; her husband of over 61 years Ronald A. Thompson; daughter Robin Elizabeth Denton; son Robert Richard Denton; and sister Gladys White.
She is survived by her son Johnny Denton (Judith Shrum); son Devin Thompson (Cheryl Thompson); son Alan Thompson; brother Steve Harris; sisters Faye Peale and Helen Manning; 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
While raising 5 children, Brucie was employed for several years at Carolina Enterprises prior to going to Black and Decker for nearly 20 years until they closed down.
She was the matriarch of her family, organizing and hosting many family events over the years. An excellent cook, her signature dishes were sweet potato casserole, banana pudding, and collards second to none. Her recipes were simple but always delicious.
Family meant everything to Brucie. She dearly loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brother, and sisters. She loved her nieces and nephews as if they were her own. Her fondest memories were camping and spending time on the water boating and jet skiing with any of the children.
Even in her weakest moments, whenever the grands or great-grands came to visit, she would light up and find renewed energy.
Brucie will be greatly missed. An era has passed.
Visitation will be at 10:00 - 11:00 am on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Carlisle Funeral Home.
