George William Johnson, Jr., 93, passed away Monday, May 9, 2022 at Vidant Edgecombe Hospital.
A service to celebrate George’s Life will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, May 13, 2022 PM in the Mausoleum at Edgecombe Memorial Park with Pastor Barry House officiating.
George was born in Edgecombe County to George Johnson, Sr. and Mary Lou Fussell Johnson on December 17, 1928. He grew up in Tarboro and attended Tarboro Pentecostal Holiness Church where he taught Sunday School and served as a deacon. Later he joined The First Free Will Baptist of Tarboro, where he also served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher and served The Lord with all his heart. He was faithful in all he did for The Lord, church, his family, and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He served in N.C. National Guard for 12 years. He retired from Long Manufacturing Company after 48 years of dedicated service.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Virginia Sexton “Pennie” Johnson, son, David Johnson, brothers, Tremain Johnson and James Elliott Johnson.
George is survived by his loving son, George William “Sonny” Johnson, III and his wife, Cheryl; brother, Milton Johnson and his wife, Diane; sister, Mary Louise “Tee Tie” Hopkins and several cousins.
The family will greet people following the service on Friday at Edgecombe Memorial Park.
