George was born on February 16, 1938 and raised in Tarboro. He was the son of the late Joseph Eugene and Mary Sessoms Manning.
He was a truly honest and loyal friend to all that knew him. He was a man of many names, as a child and all through out his high school he was called “Pop” by family and teachers. While in the U.S. Army from 22 years of duty he was called pockets because of having everything possible in the pockets of his army uniform. George started from the bottom in his 20 year career as a machinist and tool maker at Carolina Enterprise. He then started a Cummins as a tool maker where he was known as “Cuz”, he also called everyone Cuz. George retired from Cummins after 20 plus years. He was a very dedicated Moose Member where he loved to play Pool and Cards.
Out of his many names “Dunda” was his favorite that his granddaughter gave him that name some 30 years ago. He loved riding his grandbabies on the lawnmower and walking the twins who he nicknamed Pebbles & Bam Bam.
