Gordon Gene Lichtenfels, 80, Pinetops, North Carolina, died August 19, 2021.
Gene was born January 20, 1941 in Robinson, Pennsylvania. He was the son of the late Doris and Herman Lichtenfels. Gene was married to Dorothy (Dottie) Allshouse for 59 years. They had two children Diane and Steve.
Gene began working life, like his 4 brothers, as a paperboy in Robinson. He graduated from United High School, Armagh, PA in 1958; attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania; worked in the business office at Torrance State Hospital in Blairsville, PA before beginning a career in the asphalt paving business in the Washington, DC area.
Gene was a big man with a kind, unassuming nature. He was 6’5” tall and could hit a softball so hard it would sometimes explode and drive a golf ball more than 300 yards. After retiring from the paving business, Gene & Dottie built a house along the first hole of the Maccripine Golf and Country Club in Pinetops, NC where they played as long as their health allowed.
Gene was preceded in death by his daughter, Diane Meyers and sister Wadena McClure. Survivors include his son, Steve, and siblings Ralph and wife Connie, Jacksonville, Fl; Ron, Myrtle Beach, SC; Alvin and wife Rosemary, Port Saint Lucie, Fl; Karen and husband Robert Malnofsky, Robinson, PA; Marvin and wife Marianne, Gordonsville, VA. Gene and Dottie had three grandchildren Danielle Lipford, Donald Meyers and Kristin Meyers and three great-grandchildren: Adriana, Christina, and William.
Gene’s wonderful smile and great personality will be sorely missed.
