Gregory “Greg” Wayne Owens, 57, entered into rest peacefully at his home on Friday, October 6th, 2023 with his wife by his side.
Gregory was born August 23, 1966 to the late Johnny Mack and Peggy Jean Garner Owens.
He is survived by Kathy Mitchum Owens, loving wife and companion of fourteen years, his son Matthew (Kelly) Owens of Macclesfield, N.C., John Callowhill, Tonawanda, N.Y. and daughter Heather (Mark) Kramer of Tonawanda, N.Y., April Zickafoose of Jacksonville, N.C. and his brother William “Billy” Owens, of Wilson, N.C. Greg is also the loving Grandfather of Brooke, Alexis, Cassidy, Danielle, Miracle and Braiden.
Greg was a graduate of Fike High School in Wilson, N.C., and went on to complete the Machinist Program at Wilson Technical College. Greg retired from Wilson Iron Works as a Project Manager after dedicating 28 years to a job he loved. He was a volunteer fireman in his younger years and was an avid sportsman.
He was devoted to the Swamp Plantation Hunting Club. Greg loved everything about being outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating on the water, camping at the beach and going to the mountains. He was a wealth of knowledge on just about anything outdoors and could make anything. Most of all, Gregory loved spending time with his friends and family and lived by the quote “Everyday is a Gift”. Greg had the ability to befriend anyone he came across, and would help anyone in a moment's notice without expecting anything in return.
Services will be held on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 from 1 PM until 2 PM at Carlisle Funeral Home 701 Hospital Drive Tarboro, N.C. 27886, followed by the Funeral Service at 2:00 PM in the Chapel at Carlisle Funeral Home. Interment will follow service at Edgecombe Memorial Park 2879 US Highway 258 S Tarboro, N.C. 27886. The Reverend John Scott will officiate.
