Harold Willis Hobgood Sr., a long-time resident of Pinetops, died peacefully on Saturday, August 19, 2023. He was born on October 23, 1943 to the late William Dewey and Eva Nanney Hobgood in Fountain.
All his life Harold was no stranger to hard work. He farmed with his family earlier in life, later working at Cottonbelt until he decided to become an electrician. He was one of the first employees hired at Westinghouse in Pinetops (now known as ABB) where he worked in maintenance until he retired in 2000 to open Hobgood Electric Service, a family owned and operated electrical business. He loved his profession but he also loved serving his community. He was a volunteer fireman for the South Edgecombe Rural Fire Department from 1971 until 2006. He also served in different ways at Pinetops Baptist Church where his church family was near and dear to his heart.
He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was a stern but loving dad. He taught his children manners and respect. He absolutely loved his grandchildren and great grands. Riding them on the golf cart or the lawn mower and later sharing his ice cream stash with them. There are so many fond memories.
Harold was preceded in death by his grandchild, Ryan Scott; great grandchildren, Brooke and Bailey Bourne; sisters, Myrtle Hobgood Stephens; Eunice Hobgood Bell; and Lucille Hobgood Leggett; and brothers, John Hobgood; Dewey Hobgood; Jack Hobgood; Douglas Hobgood; and Sydney Hobgood.
Harold is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Bobbie Jean Hobgood; son, Harold Willis Hobgood Jr. and wife Anita, of Macclesfield; daughter, Melissa “Lisa” Hobgood Chappell and husband Jeffrey, of Greenville; son, Jason Allen Hobgood and wife Robin, of Pinetops; grandchildren, Casey Hobgood Bourne of Conetoe; Lindsay Hobgood Walston and husband Dustin, of Pinetops; Meredith Page Lawson and husband Chris, of Greenville; Hannah Chappell, of Robersonville; Taylor Hobgood, of Rocky Mount; Alyssa Chappell, of Greenville; Thomas Cooper “TC”, of Macclesfield; and Elanie Webb, of Nashville; great grandchildren, Garrett Bourne; Cayden Bourne; Savannah Dail; Colton Cooper; Nathan Lawson; Liam Walston; Parker Skaggs; Addler Walston; and Hadley Harrell; brother, Bobby Hobgood and wife Wanda, of Marco Island, FL; sisters, Betsy Hobgood Tabor and husband Charley, of Baltimore, MD; Eve Hobgood Price, of Morristown, TN; and Anne Hobgood, of Kinston NC.
