James “Tony” Lewis, 70, passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2020.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 26, at Carlisle Funeral Home with Pastor Johnny Hendricks officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery with Military Honors.
Tony honorably served in the United States Marine Corps. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a charter member of Lewis Community Volunteer Fire Dept. He was a dedicated member of Penders Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. Tony was a quiet family man whose whole world revolved around his family. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was born in Edgecombe County on July 27, 1949 to the late Robert Lee Lewis and Bettie May Lewis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Linwood Lewis, Barbara Wells, Robert “Shorty” Lewis and William “Bill” Lewis.
He is survived by his loving family which includes his wife of 51 years, Janet Lewis; sons, James “Jimmy” Lewis, Jr. (Tarasa), Troy Lewis (Beth); grandchildren, Tonia Grimsley (Lee), Toni Sharpe (Josh), Jordan Lewis, James Lewis, III, Kelly Grace Lewis, Colton Lewis; one great-grandchild, Anders Grimsley; brother, Jimmy “Buddy” Lewis; sister, Peggy Gay; sisters-in-law, Judy Lewis-Silveri, Charlie Lewis; a host of loving nieces and nephews; and his dog Bo.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 10:00-11:00 AM at Carlisle Funeral Home and other times at the home, 4774 McKendree Church Rd. Tarboro, NC.
