John Allen (Al) Killebrew, 72, passed away on April 15, 2022. Al was born on July 1, 1949 to Clater Killebrew and Millie Bradley Killebrew.

Al is survived by his mother Millie Bradley Killebrew of Tarboro, NC; Wife of 43 years Cindy Killebrew, Daughter Kristal Glover (Ken) of Jamestown, NC, Granddaughter Mary Miller Glover; Brothers Randy Killebrew (Shelley) of Tarboro, NC and CP Killebrew of Tarboro, NC. He is also survived by loving In-Laws, Nieces, Nephews, Grand-Nieces, and Grand-Nephews

Al was preceded in death by his father, Clater Killebrew.

Al graduated from West Edgecombe High School in 1967. He developed a love of basketball and continued to play after high school in various community leagues. He joined the US Army and was stationed at Fort Huachuca, AZ. After leaving the Army, he graduated from North Carolina State University in 1974 with a degree in Recreational Resources Administration. Al worked as a manager for DMS Corporation in Rocky Mount, NC and retired in 2017.

Al had a great love of the outdoors that he enjoyed sharing with others. He always looked forward to traveling with his granddaughter Mary Miller and teaching her the wonders of the outdoors from the coast to the mountains. For many years, he extensively planned trips for family and friends to Portsmouth Island, NC.  He loved visiting Big Bend National Park on many occasions, which was also the park he and Cindy visited for their honeymoon. He loved to tinker with his Scamp camper, his Jeep, and his truck, finding the latest add-ons and modifications for his next outdoor adventure.

Al also was active in his church and community. He attended McKendree United Methodist Church where he served in various leadership roles over the years. He served in community leadership roles on the Edgecombe County Planning Board and the Edgecombe County Board of Adjustments.

A funeral service is planned for 11 AM Tuesday, April 19 in the Chapel of Carlisle Funeral Home with the Reverend Kim Lail officiating. The interment will follow in the Mckendree Church Cemetery.

In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Mckendree United Methodist Church, in Care of Ann Bradley, 1195 Nobles Mill Pond Road, Tarboro, N.C. 27886
