John Arrington "Bill" Lucas

John (Bill) Lucas, 87, of Whitakers, NC went to be with his Savior on Thursday, April 14, 2022. He passed away at home, surrounded by his loving family. Bill was born January 17, 1935, to the late Lydia and Arrington Eugene Lucas of Edgecombe County.

Visitation will be at 1:00 – 2:00 P.M. on Monday, April 18, 2022, at Carlisle Funeral Home. A Celebration of Bill’s Life will be held at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Carlisle Funeral Home on Monday, April 18, 2022, with Pastor Chistopher Alphin officiating. Burial will follow in Edgecombe Memorial Park. 

Bill proudly served in the Army from 1958 to 1960. He enjoyed growing a big garden and canning fresh vegetables for his family. Bill enjoyed going to Denton Farm Park with his son, David as well as going to ride four wheelers at Uwharrie. He also enjoyed going fishing with his son-in-law, Larry Madry. He also loved traveling. Bill loved to talk and never met a stranger.

Bill was proceeded in death by his loving wife, Shirley of 63 years and his granddaughter, Kaitlin Robbins.

Survivors include his children, Teresa Madry (Larry) of Whitakers, Kimberly Lucas of Rocky Mount, Barbara Robbins (Ricky) of Whitakers, David Lucas (Billie Jo) of Whitakers, and Anita Lucas (Shalonda) of Pittsboro, NC; seven grandchildren, Ashley Cox (Marissa) of Wendell, Russ Madry (Jessica) of Palm Harbor, Florida, Amy Marlow (Jonathan) of Tarboro, Meghan Phillips (Justin) of Tarboro, Brandon Madry of Greenville, John Lucas (Meagan) of Whitakers, and Caleb Lucas of Whitakers; and ten great-grandchildren, Avery Cox, Hayden Cox, Easton Marlow, Greyson Phillips, Giana Madry, Levi Lucas, Beckett Madry, Conner Marlow, Madilyn Lucas and Samuel Phillips. His sisters; Myrtle Vick of Norfolk, Virginia, Mary Ann Webb of Tarboro, Christine Wiggins of Tarboro, Kay Lucas of Tarboro, Patricia Whitley (Kenneth) of Rocky Mount, and sister-in-law, Susan Lucas of Iowa. Bill is also survived by a special niece, Lillian Brady, who assisted with his care, and many nieces and nephews.
