Obituary

Judith Thompson Williams of Tarboro passed away on Monday, January 23rd after an extended hospital stay.

Judy was born October 2nd, 1944, in Tarboro. She was the daughter of Clara Zimmerman and Oscar Franklin Thompson.

She attended Tarboro City Schools and graduated from Tarboro High School in 1962. After graduation she attended Louisburg Junior College.

Judy is survived by her husband of 58 years and middle school sweetheart, Frederick Alton Williams Junior. Freddy was the love of her life and she was the ultimate devoted wife and mother. Ever the perfectionist, she made sure her home was immaculate, a fabulous meal was on the table and the children were well prepared for the coming school day. After the nest was empty Judy tackled various entrepreneurial ventures with Freddy, including a water company and Williams Fuel, a gas company they owned and operated in Tarboro for many years.

Outside of family Judy was passionate about Bridge. For over fifty years she was a member of a Bridge club that met regularly in their homes. Judy was a founding member of the club and cherished her hours at the card table. She also enjoyed countless summers and weekends with friends and family at Atlantic Beach.

Other than her devotion to her family, Judy displayed amazing strength after being diagnosed in 2012 with pancreatic cancer. She successfully underwent a risky surgery and endless treatment against the odds. She remained cancer free until her death.

Judy was predeceased by her beloved daughter, Susan Williams Moore. She was also predeceased by twin sisters, Bobbie Thompson Massey and Bonnie Thompson Hagan and a brother, Robert Bruce Thompson. She is survived in addition to Freddy, by her son, Frederick Alton Williams III, son-in-law, Thomas Jordan Moore, and grandchildren, Thomas Jordan Moore III, Nathaniel Chase Williams Moore, Clara Calloway Williams, Hayden Aubrey Ezzell, and Ryder Brent Ezzell.

A service will be held at Calvary Episcopal Church in Tarboro on Thursday, January 26th, at 11:00 a.m. Friends and family will be received in Clark Hall after the service.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions in memory of Judy may be made to Calvary Episcopal Church in Tarboro or to UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center.
