It is with sadness that the family of Lawrence Benjamin Spain, Sr., 85, announces his death, November 14, 2020. A life-long resident of Tarboro, Lawrence was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Phyllis, his father Charles Jenkins Spain, Sr., his mother, Jessie, brothers, Charles Jenkins Spain, Jr., Miles Spain, Russell Spain, and his sister, Sara Ware. Lawrence is survived by his sister, Sybil Sharpe, and brother, Leland Spain.
Lawrence never tired of learning. His interest in genealogy, among many other topics ranging from the cosmos, the art of drawing, to the power of positive thinking, helped shape the lives of his family, who looked to him for wise counsel, strength and reassurance. Lawrence Benjamin Spain, Sr. loved life and delighted in sharing all that he learned with his family.
He illustrated, through the way he lived, love of family, and through his study of genealogy, he connected his family through the generations. He was pleased to uphold the tradition of carrying on through the generations of Spain Family men, the name Benjamin.
It is with boundless love and gratitude for Lawrence’s love for and devotion to this family, that his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren celebrate and cherish his memory. His son, Lawrence Benjamin Spain, Jr. (Sharon), daughter, Gail Bosch (George), grandson, Benjamin Morgan Spain (Lindsey), granddaughter, Emily Deans (Strick), and his great grandchildren, who brought him great joy, and in whom he delighted to witness the carrying on of love that never ends, Rivers Deans, Palmer Deans, and Jackson Benjamin Spain.
