Lillian Schwamberger Kirkland of Tarboro passed away peacefully at home on January 10, 2021 at age 92 surrounded by her family for whom she has been heart, soul and life.
Born in New York to Walter Schwamberger and Minnetta Farley, Lillian worked as an operator for New York Telephone Company and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She married and moved to North Carolina. She and John raised their family in Speed where Lillian was an active member of the community, serving as election judge, postmistress and special education teacher. She was, first and foremost, a shining example, anchor of unconditional love, and best friend to her family.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband John and sisters Ann Schwamberger, Viola Aycock and Carolyn House.
Lillian is survived by her children John Kirkland, Walter L. Kirkland (Judy), George Kirkland (Tommi Gayle) and Ann Kirkland Coats; seven grandchildren; and five great-granchildren. sisters Dorothy Rogister, Evelyn Mitchell, Margie Belch and Kathy Weeks.
A private Graveside service planned.
