Mabel Stalls Obituary

January 8, 1931

January 1, 2022

To be blessed to know “Sweet” Mabel Stalls was to love her and be loved by her.  Holding true to her deep relationship with God, she was the epitome of a selfless and devoted spouse, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to all.  Always opening her home to anyone, Mabel loved to feed people and found great joy surrounded by family and friends.

Mabel Elizabeth Dixon Stalls was born January 8, 1931, in Roanoke Rapids, NC to the late Robert and Jodie Dixon.  Mabel was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Dewey Stalls, brother, Arthur “Speed” Dixon, and sisters, Emily Pollard and Hilda Spence.  She leaves to cherish warm memories, her sons, David Stalls (Diane) of Burlington, NC and Steven Stalls Sr (Kelly) of Tarboro, NC; grandchildren, Amy Bottoms (Justin), Jessica Duff (Eric), Jason Stalls (Katie), Steven Stalls Jr., and Jeremy Stalls (Lauren) as well as 14 great grandchildren.

Mabel’s beautiful smile, caring manner and loving spirit made being around her truly feel like “home.”  She made all those who visited feel welcome and all would leave with full bellies!  Mabel is best known for making a “mean” homemade biscuit! She took great pride in caring for others, always ensuring those around her felt happy and loved.  She was gentle yet strong, imparting her wisdom upon everyone.  A true Skip-Bo champion, Mabel enjoyed playing all board games even though she was suspected of “cheating” on occasions in Skip-Bo.  She also loved to travel, vacationing at the beach or in the mountains. Countless fond memories were made at Crystal Beach at Mabel’s and Dewey’s second home.  Family members and friends will forever cherish these memories as everyone was made to feel welcome and loved during their stay. More recently, Mabel thoroughly enjoyed spending her days at the local Senior Center.  Mabel was a beautiful and kind soul, who appreciated life and the acts of living and loving to the fullest.

The family would like to extend sincere appreciation to Neleh Bottoms, Mabel’s great granddaughter, nurses Di’ana Worrells, Allyson Gillis, and home health aide Maria Nieto from Hospice of Wilson for caring for Mabel in her final days until she joined Dewey on the Golden Streets of Heaven surrounded by love in her home.

A graveside service will be held at Edgecombe Memorial Park in Tarboro, NC at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, with Pastor Timmy Webber and Pastor Jay Thompson officiating.
