Marie Jefferson McKeel

Marie Jefferson McKeel, of Tarboro, North Carolina passed away on Monday, September 7, 2020 at Edgecombe Health and Rehabilitation Center in Tarboro, NC.

Marie was born on March 28, 1932 in Fountain, NC to Raymond and Thelma Jefferson. She grew up in Fountain and married Fredrick McKeel Sr in1950. She traveled across the United States and Europe living on various Military Bases with her husband before moving to Tarboro. She made Tarboro her home for the last 54 years and retired from Carolina Telephone & Telegraph Company with over 30 years of dedicated service. Marie loved cooking and gardening but mostly she loved her family and friends.  She never met a stranger or a soul with whom she didn’t love to talk - To know Marie was to love her. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond Jefferson and Thelma Jefferson Vandiford, daughters Lavonne McKeel and Hope Range West, brothers Raymond Dawson “Brother” and John Dwight Jefferson, sisters Marion Dilda, Marianne Taylor, Edwina Barry and husband Robert Barry.

She is survived by her brother Rodger Jefferson, son Robbie McKeel and wife Tamara, daughters Colleen “Corky” Dew, Kathy Coker and husband Josh, 7 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Carlisle Funeral Home, Wednesday, September 9, 2020 from 6:00 – 8: 00 pm.                  A graveside service will be held at Queen Anne Cemetery in Fountain, NC on Thursday, September 10, 2020 at 11:00 am.
