Mary Anderson Obituary

Mary Sessoms Anderson Anderson

Tarboro, NC

Mary Anderson, 86 , passed peacefully from this life into the next on Wednesday, April 22, 2020. She was the daughter of the late Ray and Carrie Anderson of Leggett.

Mary is survived by her devoted husband of 68 years, Van Buren Anderson, Jr, and by their great legacy of a loving family spanning four generations. She is survived by her sons Van Buren Anderson III of Saxapahaw, Allen Ray Anderson of Tarboro, Mark Steven Anderson of Hurdle Mills, daughter Kelly Anderson Florence, and husband Greg of Virginia Beach. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Graham, Jonathan and  Mary Rachel Florence. Her treasured eldest grandchild, William Joshua Anderson and his wife Rebecca of Hurst TX, are the parents of Mary and V.B.'s  great grandchildren Naomi and Elijah Ray.

A salutatorian of her Leggett High School Class, Mary lived a life of quiet excellence, achieving scholastically, providing a fine home and family life for her four children, and managing both farm, management work and home responsibilities with capable and efficient hands. She was a skilled quilter, in addition to sewing for children and home through the years. A lifelong reader, Mary inspired all generations of her family toward intelligent curiosity and a love of learning. She always held closely a small circle of those dearest to her, especially including husband V.B, her children and grandchildren, and a few treasured friends. Family and friends were blessed by her generosity, enjoying her deep support, her excellent cooking and her long lasting willingness to listen. Her loss will be a sacrifice to us each, having enjoyed the sacred gift of a loving and godly wife, mother and grandmother.

A private family graveside service will be held to honor Mary's life at Greenwood Cemetery, Tarboro.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Cobb Memorial Presbyterian Church, where she was a lifelong member.
