Matthew "Matt" Dale Reitzel

Matthew (Matt) Dale Reitzel passed away on October 15, 2023. Matt was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. 

He was born in Tarboro, NC on August 26, 1969 to Jack and Patricia (Pat) Reitzel. He graduated from Tarboro High School, and was a proud graduate of North Carolina State University, with a bachelor’s degree in Technology Education. That degree and his self-taught knowledge of computers led him into a career in Information Technology, where he actually met his wife, Victoria (Vickie) Lee. As a teenager he and his dad restored a 1966 Ford Mustang, which sparked in him a love of classic Mustangs. Years later, he bought himself a 1969 Mustang and set about restoring it, but his quest was cut short by his serious decline in health. At age 25, Matt was stricken with leukemia (AML). After months of chemotherapy, Matt suffered a lifelong battle with diabetes and ultimately, kidney failure.

A service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, October 19, 2023 at Beacon Baptist Church, 2110 Trawick Rd, Raleigh.

The family will receive relatives and friends prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the church.

A graveside service will follow at 2:00 pm at Efland United Methodist Church Cemetery, Brookhollow and Lebanon Church Road, Efland, NC 27243.

Those left holding Matt in their hearts include his devoted wife, Victoria (Vickie) Lee Reitzel and their sons: Cameron Miles Reitzel and Erik Blaine Reitzel, all of Raleigh; his parents, Jack and Patricia (Pat) Reitzel of Tarboro; his sister, Kathleen Reitzel Chappell (Mike); nephews: Will Chappell and Spencer Chappell; and niece, Riley Chappell, all of Greenville. Matt is also survived by sisters-in-law: Rita McAlister (Terry) of Dudley, Kay Passante (Joe) of Camden; brother-in-law, Timmy Lee (Gaye) of Florence, SC; nieces and nephews: Chad McAlister, Jonathan McAlister, Jessica Stavish, Joseph Stavish (Whitley), Katie Lee Cherry (Kevin), Jacob Lee (Amy); as well as numerous great-nieces and nephews.
