Milton House "Mickey" Tolson

Milton House Tolson, 85, passed away peacefully at his home in Tarboro on November 10, 2021.

He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas L. Tolson, Sr. and Effie Proctor Tolson; sisters: Nora Tolson Flanagan and Eva Tolson Sugg; brothers: Thomas Lester Tolson, Jr., William Dock Tolson, Fred Lewis Tolson, and Joe Pat Tolson.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years Dottie Tolson; daughter Bonnie Tolson Baldassano (Bill) of PA; grandson Matthew Baldassano of NY; brother Norris Tolson of Pinetops; brother-in-law Norfleet Sugg; sisters-in-law Joyce Tolson, Amy Tolson, Linda Snyder, and Anne Tolson; in-laws Shirley Boseman, Barbara & Roger Everett, and Ricky Boseman; cousins and many nieces & nephews.

Mickey graduated from South Edgecombe High School in 1955 where he played sports and was a bus driver. In the past few years, he enjoyed meeting his fellow classmates for their monthly reunion lunches. He was raised on the Tolson family farm where he honed his life-long work ethic, often recalling the times he milked dairy cows as a young boy. 

He served in the US Army prior to working as supervisor at Glenoit and Long Mfg. Co. He later became a self-employed, professional house painter and also enjoyed working part-time at Carlisle Funeral Home. He gladly served as a blood donor for the American Red Cross until his health prevented his donating. He was an active member of Trinity Baptist Church of Tarboro where, during his younger days, he enjoyed annual mission trips to West Virginia to help build churches. He couldn’t resist feeding stray cats in the area; his last rescue in 2019 was “Sweetie.”

Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm at Carlisle Funeral Home in Tarboro followed by the funeral service at 2:00 pm on Saturday, Nov 13 at Carlisle with Dr. Jordon Willard officiating. Burial will follow at 3:00 pm at Edgecombe Memorial Park. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Baptist Church, 730 W. Wilson St., Tarboro, NC 27886.
