Nancy Brown Nobles

Nancy Brown Nobles was born on November 4, 1937 to Virginia Galloway and Joseph Brown, Sr. She was the first born of six children in their family. Henry was the second child, then J.C. Brown, Jr., followed by Maynard, John Ivey and Susie. They called Edgecombe County their home and farmed the land they loved.

Nancy graduated from South Edgecombe High School where she was a majorette in the marching band. After graduation, Nancy went on to attend Atlantic Christian College, later known as Barton College. Her family, friends, and teachers made note of how exceptional her memorization skills were.

From her marriage to Bill, they raised two children, Bill, Jr. and Virginia. The young family moved to Kinston in order to enroll the children at Grace Christian School, which employed Nancy for several years as the office secretary. Deciding to make a change, Nancy began taking night classes at Lenoir Community College towards a degree in Nursing. Graduating on the Dean’s List, she left her job at the school to achieve her dream of becoming a nurse. When the physician she began her career with passed away, Nancy accepted a position at Neuse Correctional in Maury, NC where she remained until retirement.

For the last 35 years, Nancy had been married to Don who brought three children of his own to the family: Wayne, Rhonda and Eric. Don and Nancy enjoyed traveling. They took several trips to Florida to visit her sister-in-law Lynn, even taking a cruise gifted to them by Don’s children. Don was steadfast by her side during two bouts with cancer. They did everything together; leading many to say that theirs was “a true love story.”

Nancy loved God, her family, palm trees and the ocean. Nancy loved the Lord with all her heart and was a person of great faith. She loved her grandchildren, whom she called “her babies” no matter their age.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at Carlisle Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 PM. A graveside service will be held on Thursday at 2:00 PM in Queen Anne Cemetery, Fountain, NC.

A special thanks to Carolyn who in her last month made such a big difference in such a short time. Nancy truly enjoyed the time they spent together in prayer and devotions.
