Reba Gardner Pollard

Reba Gardner Pollard of Cary, formerly of Tarboro, went to her eternal home on the 27th of December 2021. She was 94 years old.

She was born November 14, 1927, in Edgecombe County, NC, to the late Levy D. Gardner and Emily Edmondson Gardner.

Reba was the oldest of nine children who grew up on a farm in Edgecombe County. Upon graduation from South Edgecombe High School in 1945, she went to work with Carolina Tel. and Tel. Company as a telephone operator. She later became a Force Requirements Assistant until retiring in 1983 with a total of 37 years of service with the company.

Reba was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 68 years, John S. Pollard; and brothers, William Hilton Gardner, Larry Mance Gardner, Lindsay D. Gardner, and Calvin Thomas Gardner.

She is survived by her daughter, Jeanette P. Cain and husband Harry Cain of Cary, NC; grandchildren, John Wesley Cain and wife Irina of Cambridge, Mass., Kristy Hwang and husband Roger of Cary, NC; and great-grandchildren, Iris Cain and Amelia Hwang. She is also survived by her sisters Marie Brown and Nettie Gardner both of Wilson, NC; Sue Harrell of Fountain, NC; Ann Cooper of Rocky Mount, NC; and sister-in-law Carol Gardner of Kinston, NC; as well as many special nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and cousins, especially Ruth Edwards of Raleigh, NC.

 Funeral service will be held at Carlisle Funeral Home in Tarboro, NC on Sunday, January 2, 2022 at 2:00 P.M with Rev. Steve Herring officiating. The family will receive friends starting at 1:00 P.M. on Sunday. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
