Robert Edmondson, JR Obituary

Robert Oscar Edmondson, Jr was born on June 7, 1933 in Edgecombe County to Robert Oscar Edmondson, Sr and Lena Alford Edmondson.  He was the oldest of six children, big brother to Martha, Bill, Faye, Jean and Sue.

He served in the US Army and met Esther Edmondson on a blind date in New Bern.  They married on February 16th and settled in Conetoe, NC.  They welcomed their son Robert Timothy in March of 1960, followed by Cheryl Dawn in 1961 and Vonda Ruth in 1964.

Bob worked for years at the A&P in Tarboro.  After he retired, he painted houses for many years, but family and church life were his passion.  He was a man of great faith and devoted to prayer.  He loved to share the Word of God and spoke boldly about his Savior and Lord, wearing out Bible after Bible. He and Esther stayed busy with Church, serving wherever they were needed.  Later they went on many mission trips around the world, including Russia, Israel, Jamaica, Haiti and Guyana.  Seeing the world was exciting, but it was equally exhilarating to spread and share the Gospel.

Papa was a devoted husband, loving Father and doting Grandfather.  The grandkids were his pride and joy.  They have many sweet memories of Papa playing with them in the yard and at the beach on family vacations.  One of their favorite Papa quotes is “It’s good for you” about the veggies he grew in his garden.

Like his brothers and sisters, Bob was an avid gardener and always had something growing or rooting throughout the year.  His excitement knew no bounds when a pineapple plant he had babied for years grew a full size pineapple. He also loved the trumpet plants that grew to such great heights in the yard and reveled in puttering around his garden and the various pots he had throughout the yard.

Bob had a true servant’s heart.  He was quick to help others, and delighted in giving, whether it was his time and effort or something tangible he could share.  Rarely did anyone come by that left empty handed.  He gave generously and whole-heartedly.

While he will be missed by family and his many friends, we rejoice that he is at peace now enjoying eternity with his Savior.
