Ronald A. Thompson, 83 of Tarboro, NC passed away peacefully Tuesday April 26th surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Sallie Thompson, 5 brothers, 5 sisters, son Robert Denton and daughter Robin Elizabeth Denton. Ronald was the youngest of 11 children. Ronald is survived by his loving wife Emily Bruce Thompson of 60 years, son Devin Thompson (Cheryl Thompson), son Alan Thompson, and son Johnny Denton (Judith Shrum), 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ronald was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints since 1976. He very much loved and cherished his church and his church family.
Ronald worked for Stone and Webster Engineering for 34 years as a surveyor and Senior Field Engineer. He also was an avid and very skilled wood worker, building cabinets, furniture, and most any type of wood project that someone needed or wanted. His work was considered stupendous, as he was a perfectionist in all aspects of his life and work. His most notable quote was "I can't put my signature on it if it's not right".
The family will receive friends and family Saturday April 30th at Carlisle Funeral Home from 12pm-2pm. A memorial service will immediately follow in the chapel, followed by a graveside dedication at Edgecombe Memorial Park. Services will be officiated by Bishop Jimmie King, eulogy by Ed Holloman, and graveside dedication to follow.
He will be greatly missed by all.
