Russell Howard Yerkes II, 65, of Tarboro, NC passed away unexpectedly in his home on May 19, 2021
Russell was predeceased by his sister, Tracy Caroline Yerkes, and his brother, Kevin Dean Yerkes.
Russell is survived by his mother, Caroline Midgett, his wife Brenda Yerkes his sons Russell Howard Yerkes III and Corey Christopher Yerkes and brothers Kenton Ward Yerkes and Christopher Wayne Yerkes.
After Russell attended Frank W. Cox High School, he went on to study Arts History at Mansfield State College. He continued on to pursue his lifelong love of drawing and painting to become a internationally recognized professional artist. Russell consistently participated in art shows up and down the east coast on his way to earning signature recognition from the American Watercolor Society and Midwest Watercolor Society and receiving numerous awards of excellence and certificates of merit. Russell served multiple terms as President of the Watercolor Society of North Carolina and strongly supported development of art education in North Carolina Public Schools.
Russell’s passion for teaching and mentoring was endless, he enjoyed being with people and was admired and respected among his peers. When Russell wasn’t creating his unique artwork, he really enjoyed time on the golf course losing golf balls. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and had a wonderful sense of humor. His warm smile, thundering laugh and glowing personality will be greatly missed by all that had known him.
Please join the family for a visitation on Sunday, May 23, 2021 from 11:30-12:30 PM at Carlisle Funeral Home. Service to follow on Sunday at 12:30 PM in the Chapel of the funeral home.
