Thomas Mills, Sr. Obituary

Thomas Hooks Mills, Sr.

11/07/1941 -- 02/17/2021

Thomas H. Mills, Sr. died 02/17/2021 after a long battle with Parkinson, heart and kidney disease. He was preceded in death by his parents MD and Kate Mills, brothers Bobby Ray and Buster Mills and a son Thomas H. Mills, Jr.

He leaves behind a loving family to cherish his memory. Wife of 29 years Nancy Newton Mills which he adored for 41 years, his daughter Angela Zuleg (Kevin) of Newton NC, a step-son Jimmie G. Johnson Jr. of Tarboro NC, whom he loved as his own son. Seven grandchildren Emile’ Ward (Brandon) of Elk, Park NC, Lindsay Henson (Chad) of Sugarcane NC, Kristen Hicks (Justin) of Boone NC, Brittney Davis of Charlotte NC, Carmen Watson (Tyler) of Tarboro NC, Mackenzie Johnson and Matthew Johnson of Tarboro NC, a special sister-in-law Carrie Mills of Baltimore MD, brother-in-law John Newton (Carolyn) of Tarboro NC, Robert Newton (Brenda) of Tarboro NC, sister-in-law April Turner (Calvin) of Whitakers NC, several nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, and his fur-babies Bogey, Sofee, and Liddy.

Tommy was a graduate of Tarboro High School and began his working career at Long Manufacturing Company of Tarboro as a tool and die maker. He went to several schools and received many diplomas in that field. Over his illustrious career he was a mold and tool design manager at Carolina Enterprises, Black and Decker of Tarboro and Cooper Standard of Rocky Mount. Due to his employment he was a world traveler to England, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Portugal, Germany and France. He also travelled most of the United States for the various companies he worked for.

He was an avid golfer and player at Hilma, Maccripine, Scotfield and most golf courses in Eastern North and South Carolina. His favorite of all the golf courses was Hilma Country Club in Tarboro. He loved it because of the friends he had there and there was always someone to play a couple of rounds on Saturday and Sunday. All his friends said he was the most honest golfer they ever knew. He never fudged on a hole and never cheated on his scorecard. You could say he was a genuine person of character. He will be missed by those that remember the good ol’e days at Hilma Country Club.

He will also be missed by his many friends he has made over the years and his extended family. He never met anyone he didn’t like or care about. Everyone was a friend of “Tommy Mills.” I will miss you my love, companion, and friend. He was a lover of people and life and lived every day to its fullest. What a wonderful life we have had for the past 41 years. In God's care may you Rest in Peace.
