Tony Ray Speight

Tony Ray Speight, age 68, died peacefully in his sleep, and went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, September 14, 2023.

He was born in Nash County on March 27, 1955. He was the son of the late Sylvia Everette Speight.

Tony is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Barbara Drake Speight; his father, Phillip Allen Speight, two sisters, Wanda Rose Speight Purington of Pottstown, PA and Sylvia Kay Speight of Dedham, Mass; brother-in-law, Dennis Drake, nieces and nephews, and several cousins. Tony leaves his special furry friend Charlie, that he loved so much.

Tony was a faithful member of Bethany Baptist Church in Sharpsburg, NC for fifteen years. He shared his talent in music and song every Sunday. After his health started to decline, Tony lived at Prodigy Transitional Rehab Nursing Home in Tarboro, NC where he was given excellent care. Tony especially spoke highly of his caregiver, James. Tony also loved Gloria Warrick, Director of Nursing, and Christian friend for her efforts to make sure he was comfortable and well cared for. Tony enjoyed his Facebook page and his cell phone. Tony was one that never complained. Tony sang at different churches and had many friends. He will certainly be missed by all those who knew him. 

A funeral service to celebrate Tony's life will be held on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Carlisle Funeral Home in Tarboro with Layman Braxton Price officiating. The family will  receive friends and relatives one hour prior to the service from 1:00-2:00 PM. Burial will follow the service at Pineview Cemetery, Pinetops NC.
