Macclesfield, NC ~ Van Gordon (Gordy) Webb died Saturday, October 2, 2021 at The Service League of Greenville Inpatient Hospice after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. A native of Macclesfield, Edgecombe County, NC, Gordy spent over 50 years of his life dedicated to his farm, where he grew tobacco, corn, soybeans, wheat, and cotton. He was also an avid fox and bobcat hunter, spending many weekends with his hunting buddies running dogs in the woods. He also loved going to the pier at Emerald Isle with his wife and fishing for spots. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing his guitar and singing, spending time outside and building things, and eating homemade meals and desserts cooked by his two daughters, especially banana pudding and sweet potato pie. His greatest joy was his three grandchildren, who always knew how to make him smile and laugh.
Gordy was preceded in death by his father John Wright Webb, mother Nannie Lee Webb, brother John Ledger Webb, sister Eunice Webb Beach, and niece Donna Beach Hale. He is survived by his wife Delta Joyner Webb, and their daughters Heather (Greg) Webb Carrouth, of Ponte Beach, Florida and Jessica Webb Szymanski of Havelock; his grandchildren, William Gregory Carrouth, Madelyn Lee Carrouth, and Ava Reagan Szymanski; his siblings, Judy Proctor, Elizabeth (Paul) Moore, and Mitchell Webb; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
