Mr. Wilbur Clayton Meeks, age 82 of Conetoe passed away on Thursday, January 6, 2022, at the Vidant Edgecombe Hospital.
Wilbur graduated from Bethel High School in 1957. His work career began with the Colonial Store in Tarboro where he was advanced to produce manager when it became Big Star. After this he changed to a career that he loved as a farmer. He worked many years as an overseer for Archie Burnette of Burnette Farms. Eventually Wilbur became an independent farmer growing row crops of corn, soybeans, peanuts, and tobacco until retirement.
Wilbur loved spending time with his family especially his grand and great grandchildren. He held a passion for horses, and they were and important part of his adult life. During summer days family and friends would gather on the farm and enjoy time riding and fellowship with great cookouts.
Wilbur lived a full life and was greatly loved by his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents Hazel Roberson Tolson and Walter Clayton Meeks and a sister Doris King.
He is survived by his wife, Linda C. Meeks, Daughters Noreen Dail (Eddie) and Janet Webb (Dan), grandchildren Scott Dail (Tracy), Lauren Mintz (Kelly) , Emily Robertson (Bryan), and Clayton Webb, great grandchildren Katie Dail, Grace Webb, Anna Claire Robertson, Mathew Mintz and Willow Robertson.
The family will receive friends and family at the Conetoe United Methodist Church on Sunday, January 9, 2022, from the hours of 1 PM until 3 Pm with a Celebration of Wilbur’s Life being held in the church at 3 Pm with the Rev Ron Elkins. The burial will follow in the church cemetery at the conclusion of the service.
The family wishes to thank all the great caregivers who have given great care for Wilbur through his life by various Doctors and Nurses and also all those who have prayed for our family during these times. We would like to also thank Connie and Phylis for your loving Care.
